Review

Located 10 minutes from Capri port, and a five-minute walk from quaint Anacapri, Hotel Caesar Augustus is a perfect hideaway from the island's bustling towns. Once owned by Russian Prince Emmanuel Bulhak, the villa, which dates back to 1850, has multiple terraces that dot the dramatic cliffside location. After purchasing the property and converting it to a luxury hotel in the 1940s, new owners, Italy-based Signorini family took every necessary measure to ensure that guests always feel at home.

The hotel is comprised of 56 rooms in the main building and Villa California, home to 10 individual suites. Rooms are comfortable and simply decorated in neutral tones, accented with a few historic touches like canopy beds or gilded lamps. Though many accommodations have ocean views, the spacious Vesuvio and Tiberio suites have the most exceptional vistas. Those looking for a more affordable suite with an equally incredible view should request the Junior Cliff Side accommodations, which are built into the mountainside.

The main terrace, just steps below the hotel entrance, has two restaurants. The terrace bar is perfect for al fresco dining, while La Terrazza di Lucullo is a more formal affair and boasts floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the sea. All of the dishes are cooked with ingredients made locally and feature produce from Paolo Signorini’s vegetable and herb garden on property. Noteworthy delicacies include the delicious, plump tomatoes, used when in season for the well-known Caprese salad, and an assortment of hot chilies.

Overall, what really sets Hotel Caesar Augustus apart is its warm, inviting staff. Children of all ages are welcome and families will love the hotel’s pool area with sun loungers and yellow awnings, which is the perfect place to relax for an afternoon overlooking the aquamarine Tyrrhenian Sea. Facilities also include a spa and gym, located side by side on a terraced garden overlooking the water.

Who Should Stay

Those who appreciate jaw dropping views and travelers seeking a family-friendly property and quieter location away from Capri’s main town. The hotel has a complimentary shuttle into town for all hotel guests throughout the day.
