At a Glance

Tiberio Palace has sweeping ocean views, a Pop Art design and a low-key yet undeniably cool ambience. Both design-oriented travelers looking for a central location (it’s just a few minutes on foot to the piazzetta) and iconic Capri vistas—and those seeking an alternative to the traditional Italian aesthetic—will enjoy its contemporary vibe. The design for its 54 rooms and suites, the brainchild of Milanese designer Giampiero Panepinto, easily brings to mind the home of a chic globe trotter, with one-off curios from around the world peppered among whimsical furnishings such as chairs upholstered in fuchsia polka dots and spacious terraces with brightly patterned tiled floors. Guests can relax poolside or indulge in a treatment at the 6,500-square-foot spa. Soak in the views and dine on Mediterranean food at the Terrazza Tiberio, and finish the day with a nightcap in the Jacky bar, just one of the hotel’s hat-tips to long-ago Capri habitué Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

The Standout: The playful rooms with oversized, sea-facing terraces tiled in colorful hand-glazed majolica

Don’t Miss: An after-hours boat trip to the Blue Grotto (rumored to have been Emperor Tiberius’s personal swimming spot, it is a must-see while at his namesake hotel)

  • The 6,500-square-foot Spa Tiberio and its water zone of hydrotherapy pools and steam rooms
  • The location, just steps from the shops of Via Camerelle (which also feels removed from the bustle of town)
  • The indoor-outdoor pool, for hours of gazing at the Tyrrhenian Sea—or at funky installations by Milan-based designer Giampiero Panepinto

Review

For the most unique rooms on the island, stay at the Capri Tiberio Palace, a whimsical boutique hotel just a few minutes walk from the piazzetta. This newly refurbished property has sweeping ocean views, a pop-art design and a low-key yet effortlessly cool feel.

The design for the 54 rooms and suites, the brainchild of Milanese designer Giampiero Panepinto, easily brings to mind the home of a chic globetrotter, with one-off curios from around the world peppered among chairs upholstered in fuchsia polka dots, spacious terraces with brightly patterned tiled floors and walls covered in turquoise wallpaper. The effect is cheeky and holiday-ready. The bathrooms evoke serenity with sober chocolate-brown tones and luxe marble surfaces. The most divine rooms are without a doubt the one-bedroom suites, which are spacious and light-filled. The hotel recently took over the building next door and added 10 new suites that look out onto an elegant garden.

On-property, you can flop poolside at the indoor/outdoor pool on the second-floor terrace or indulge in a treatment at the 6,500-square-foot Spa Tiberio; whether booking a massage or not, the Water Zone, with its hydrotherapy pools and steam rooms, is well worth a visit and is open to all guests. Soak in the views and dine on Mediterranean food at the Terrazza Tiberio, and finish the night with a nightcap in the Jacky bar, just one of the hotel's hat tips to former Capri habitué Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Spotlight: Capri Insider

Part of the pleasure of visiting this Italian resort island is to get out on the water to explore the rocky coastline, studded with coves and hidden bays only accessible from the sea. Capri Tiberio Palace offers a special way of touring by gozzo, a traditional wooden sailboat that is typical in the Mediterranean. An afternoon sail takes you past Capri’s Faraglioni rocks, which rise from the water like ancient sea creatures.

Who Should Stay

Design-oriented travelers looking for a central location and iconic Capri vistas; travelers seeking an alternative to the traditional Italian aesthetic found in these parts will enjoy Capri Tiberio Palace’s contemporary vibe. Those looking for a quintessential, classic experience should book at Quisisana or La Scalinatella. The property’s many connecting room options and spacious suites make it ideal for families.
