Da Aurelio

Known for simple and lighthearted cuisine, Da Aurelio is run by Chef Gigi Dariz and positioned on top of the Giau Pass. As is typical for most restaurants in the region, this spot strives to utilize fresh, local ingredients and seasonal produce. The dining room is light and airy and also offers a terrace outside on nicer days with 360-degree views to the surrounding mountains and glaciers. The cuisine is influenced by the Alto Adige region as well as the Veneto while the wine list includes a nice selection of local and far-flung options in addition to the restaurant's homemade grappa.

El Camineto

At the foot of the Tofano Mountain sits the family-run El Camineto. The al fresco patio offers stunning lunchtime views after a morning spent skiing and a romantic atmosphere in the evening, where guests can dine beneath heaters to stay warm. The indoor and more formal wooden dining room is decorated in traditional alpine décor and serves the same regional classics as the terrace, including their house specialty, risotto, and roasted meats.

Those looking for both a picturesque location as well as fine dining experience will be well satisfied at the Cristallo Hotel’s Il Gazebo. Set in the glass-enclosed gazebo of the famed hotel, the restaurant has spectacular views overlooking the town of Cortina as well as the Tofane mountains. In winter, this is a truly mesmerizing sight with the snow-capped mountains and steeple of the town’s church serving as your backdrop. The hotel also has a private chef's table, Il Cantuccio, that serves up to 12 guests a menu and wines hand-picked by the restaurant's executive chef.

Maso Runch

Maso Runch is both a small hotel and restaurant serving homemade Ladino cuisine in a farmhouse that dates back to the early 1700’s. The food is prepared by the mother (Maria), father (Enrico) and son (Christian), while service is provided by their daughters, daughter-in law and son. The menu is compromised of five courses, and highlights are the Schlutzkrapfen and Turtres.

Moritzino

For those interested in heading to “the” place for après ski, Moritzino is it (think Aspen’s Cloud 9). Open for over 50 years, this restaurant, wine bar and rowdy après-ski spot are quite the scene during the winter months. Serving up some of the best local cuisine and wine, Moritzino is a wonderful stop for both food and wine lovers. Chef Marco Spinelli is known for his meat, seafood and delicious pasta dishes, featuring seasonal produce from the surrounding area. Outside the hut is a true Neapolitan pizza oven serving up thin pies to travelers less inclined to sit for a long meal. The wine bar also offers a slightly cozier ambience and the sommelier can guide guests through a highly refined collection of wines.

Every afternoon at 2pm, DJ Luca Noale starts blasting tunes on the restaurant’s terrace that can be heard over the mountaintops. If you thought skiing was the highlight of the day, think again. Here, friends, strangers and locals can be seen dancing on tables, partying and enjoying the music.

Interiors at Pomedes, Dolomites, Italy

Pomedes

Set at the top of the World Cup ski run, this restaurant's spacious terrace has panoramic vistas. Be advised that the black-diamond run is the only way to ski back down, so if you plan to schuss home, make sure you are advanced. An appealing alternative is to leave the equipment at your lodging and take a cable car up and laze in the sun.

Pre de Costa

Located in an old barn from the 1950s, Pre de Costa is surrounded by the forests of Armetarola en route to the Falzarego Pass. Popular for hikers coming from San Cassiano, the restaurant can be reached by a moderate hiking path (1km) and offers beautiful views of the surrounding valley, nearby meadows and forest from the outdoor terrace. The restaurant serves typical Ladin dishes from old family recipes using local ingredients. Pre de Costa is also easily reachable in winter for those who enjoy cross-country skiing; however, we like it best in the summer months.

Rifugio Bioch

This typical mountain hut, located by the chairlift that shares its name, Bioch, is home to a bar, restaurant and sunny outdoor terrace, where food is served in both the summer and winter seasons. The chef serves traditional Ladin, Tyrolean and Mediterranean dishes. In the winter months the restaurant also participates in the “Skiing with Gusto” event (founded by the Pizzinini family) and teams up with Chef Norbert Niederkofler of the Rosa Alpina. In this event traditional mountain rifugios pair with Michelin-starred chefs to elevate their offerings. In the summer you can reach the Rifugio by either hiking or using the ski lifts and taking a short walk over mountain pastures; in the winter the restaurant is ski-in ski-out.

Rifugio Scotoni is a wonderful spot to enjoy vintage wines, traditional food and beautiful views during a day in the mountains. Whether you decide to cozy up inside during the winter months or spend time on the terrace in the summer, the rifugio is a relaxing spot for a mid-day break. Additionally, the surroundings of the Scotoni Rifugio were home to many intense battles during WWI where the Italian and Austrian armies fought for control of the area. More than 80km of skiable terrain can be accessed from the cottage to create a WWI ski tour.
