Most Portofino visitors quickly settle into the Italian Riviera rhythm, spending warm summer days relaxing at the pool or shopping in the port and long evenings passed over leisurely diners with friends and family. But there is also easy access to picturesque hiking, interesting cultural sites and family-friendly day trips that allow for a fuller, more active itinerary.
Your first day in Portofino should be spent settling into the Italian coastal pace—go for a swim at your hotel, check out some of the cute boutiques in town (punctuated with a gelato break, of course), stroll along the marina checking out the docked megayachts, then end the day with dinner in town at Chuflay.
The excellent hike from San Rocco di Camogli runs along a path that skirts the sea and includes the ability to visit the remains of a German WWII bunker. Return to the hotel in time for an afternoon swim and spa treatment before a casual dinner at Pizzeria Da Nicola.
After breakfast meet your guide and head to the Portofino port to set sail for the romantic Cinque Terre, the five legendary hanging villages strung like jewels along the verdant, rugged, Ligurian coast. You will stop for lunch at Belforte, set atop an old fortress in Vernazza, one of the more unique and charming of the Cinque Terre. On your final evening, have dinner at Da U Batti, set in a narrow alleyway behind Portofino’s piazzetta.
