Indagare founder Melissa Biggs Bradley recently traveled to Rome as the co-host of our inaugural Insider Journey with Vogue magazine, alongside Vogue’s Director of Fashion Initiatives Rickie De Sole. Here, Melissa shares some of her favorite photos and highlights from the trip.
“Rome is a constant inspiration,” declared one of the many designers we met on our inaugural Vogue x Indagare Insider Journey, “A Fashion Lover’s Rome.” “I am inspired by its art, its colors, the light and the emotions of the people.”
On our four-day journey two weeks ago—a new experience that will offered again in September—we discovered the origins of fashion in antiquities and frescoes made for the emperors. We met with the craftsmen in haute couture ateliers and toured archives and exhibits where we saw the sketches of Valentino and Karl Lagerfeld, alongside their creations realized. The creative director of Bulgari shared the stories behind legendary pieces and trend-setting designs. We also discovered how the fashion houses continue to honor their beloved “cradle of inspiration,” from Fendi’s transformation of the Palazzo della Civiltà and recent fashion show on the Palatine Hill to Tod’s restoration of the Colosseum.
“It was the passion of all of the people we met, from the prince to the hatmakers—how they love their heritage and their craft—that made the trip unforgettable,” declared one traveler. Rome is a city of passions, and getting to access its layers of history and artistry through the prism of fashion and the friends of Vogue makes for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. After all—there’s no shortage of opportunities to shop for the season, with a Vogue editor by your side.
