At a Glance

Rocco Forte Hotels has always been a family affair—with Sir Rocco, the visionary chairman; his sister Olga Polizzi, the creative force; and three grown children overseeing the culinary, wellness and development programs. And while the portfolio includes hotels in the U.K., Russia, Belgium and Germany, there’s always been something special about the ones in Italy, perhaps because the brand is not just deeply stylish but also has a witty charm that feels very italiano. Italy is also the location of the company’s most recent addition: Villa Igiea. Since reopening under the Forte banner in 2021, this old-world property, situated right on the Gulf of Palermo 15 minutes from the city center, has brought new life to a turn-of-the-century palazzo-turnedhotel that has hosted Hollywood stars and European royals over the years. Its reimagined Art Nouveau interiors feature 72 rooms and 28 suites, all with a sea-inspired color scheme. In addition to its glorious gardens, Villa Igiea also has a spa, pool and tennis courts.

**The Standout:** The Art Nouveau suites with terraces that overlook the gardens, towards the gulf of Palermo, and Carrara marble bathrooms with handmade Sicilian floor tiles **Don’t Miss:** A guided tour of Monreale, the Arab-Norman cathedral from the 12th century, with unmatched floor-to-ceiling mosaics

Review

Opened in summer 2021 under the Rocco Forte brand, this former old-world hotel, sitting right on the Gulf of Palermo, brings new life—and style—to a turn-of-the-century palazzo that once hosted Hollywood stars and royalty. With reimagined Art Nouveau interiors from Rocco Forte's one-and-only Olga Polizzi, the new property is sure to attract a stylish set; the 78 rooms and 22 suites have also received a fresh update, with a sea-inspired color scheme. The restaurant and bar serve authentic Sicilian cuisine, with a focus on fresh, local ingredients, from chef Fulvio Pierangelini. Offering more space and comforts than most of the hotels in the center of the city, Villa Igiea also has a spa, pool and tennis courts (note: the property is about a 15-minute taxi ride from the very center of Palermo).
