Review

Occupying five canal houses on the beautiful Herengracht in the Nine Streets quarter, the Hoxton opened in 2015 and infused the neighborhood with the brand’s signature hipster style. The massive lobby serves several functions and has an updated 1970s aesthetic with industrial elements and a hint of modernism. The main floor is styled with distressed leather couches, dark wood floors, autumnal-hued chairs and printed accent pillows, and includes many seating areas as well as the hotel’s all-day restaurant, Lotti’s, which is run in a partnership with Soho House. A spiral staircase leads guests to the second-floor mezzanine, where there is more seating and a library.

The 111 rooms at the Hoxton are quirky and come in different sizes, and most offer views of the canal. For example, the Shoebox room is the smallest option and comes with a single bed and minimalist furnishings, whereas the upper category accommodations are much more spacious. The Roomy rooms feature oversized windows, dark-wood-paneled walls, ceilings with exposed beams that have been painted white, leather headboards and small seating areas. The Tubby is a two-story loft with a polished blue-and-white color scheme and a bathtub next to the bed. Located in the attic, the chic room has angled ceilings and lots of exposed support beams.

While the Hoxton encourages guests to lounge and relax throughout its many public spaces, the hotel lacks a spa and gym, although bikes are available for guests. There are a series of rooms (The Kitchen, the Study and the Games Room) that can be rented for private parties, dinners or events.
