Cervejaria Ramiro, Avenida Almirante Reis, Lisbon, Portugal
351 21 885 1024
This historic Lisbon institution has been around since 1956 and is insanely popular with locals and visitors alike (at peak dinner time, the queue can last an hour for those without a reservation, so have your concierge book a few days in advance, as the restaurant doesn’t take reservations day of). It serves simply prepared, ultra-fresh seafood—from countless varieties of shrimp and the inevitable clam stew to crab, lobster, oysters and barnacles—much of it plucked from one of the tanks lining the street-facing windows. The environment is boisterous and nearly frantic; indeed, watching the servers’ dexterous dance to keep tables turning is a spectacle in and of itself. While Cervejaria Ramiro isn’t a good fit for those aiming for a peaceful evening out, it’s a must for anyone seeking an authentic atmosphere and fantastic seafood.
