Refined, glamorous and elegant, Bertie’s Bar was named after Queen Victoria’s extravagant eldest son, King Edward VII, also known as “Bertie.” This intimate, hidden bar in The Fife Arms is Scotland’s top whisky bar, with over 390 whiskies organized by flavor profile: fragrant, fruit, rich and smoky. Not a conventional bar, Bertie’s is set up as a whisky library, with cozy red velvet furniture, a fireplace and whisky bottles arranged like books on shelves. The lighting is ingenious, conceived so that the room is always lit in an amber glow: each bottle is backlit and uplighters on the tables make the whisky glimmer as it is poured into the glass. Whisky ‘librarians’ employ a fun and playful approach—like asking for your food preferences to help them source the perfect whisky drink for you. Regardless of whether you enjoy whisky, this is a bar experience not to be missed. Bespoke whisky tastings are also available on request. Reservations are a must.
