Sagrada Familia, Carrer de Mallorca, Barcelona, Spain
(34) 932-07-30-31
The surreal Sagrada Familia cathedral, Antoni Gaudí's final project, was left unfinished due to his untimely death in 1926. Pre-purchasing tickets or going with a guide is essential to avoid long waits. Those visiting alone should download the audio guide in the app to guide them through the visit.
For those interested in climbing to the top of one of the towers, there are currently two options: the Nativity tower and the Passion tower. It is important to note that travelers ascend via the elevator and descend via the stairs, which can be dizzying for those with vertigo but allows those interested a close up look at some of Gaudi's exterior. There is currently no option to ascend the towers via stairs. The Passion tower is the higher tower and thus considered by some to have the better view, but the real value of climbing the towers is to see the architecture from the spiral staircase rather than the views, which are better from Parc Güell or Montjuic (or even the rooftop of El Palace Hotel Barcelona). The tower ticket is separate from the cathedral ticket and comes with its own entry time. Be sure to be in line for the tower by the time on your tower ticket. You will be able to see the rest of the cathedral after you descend.
The Sagrada Familia is located in the Gracia neighborhood, an easy walk from the hotels in Eixample.
