Sneak Peek: Six Senses Ibiza

Ibiza has it all: natural beauty, fabulous beaches, a fascinating history and culture—plus a club scene that brings the world’s top DJs every year. And this summer, it’s getting a new resort that has the team at Indagare excited to return. Rising from the rocky shore overlooking Xarraca Bay, on Ibiza’s little-visited northwest coast, the soon-to-open Six Senses Ibiza promises to be an ultra-luxurious option for visitors looking for a wellness-forward escape (with the pulsing rhythms of the island’s dance clubs a welcome, but still convenient, half hour away). Here’s why we can’t wait to check in.

A Refined Home Base

Six Senses Ibiza’s 116 breezy guest rooms and suites resemble an elevated take on the traditional Spanish finca, or farming estate. While many luxury properties emphasize separation and seclusion, Six Senses Ibiza’s driving design mission is reconnection. What that means for guests: lots of areas to mingle, from the on-property marketplace and concerts by the water to the spa’s multi-day group retreats. And throughout the resort, works by local artisans as well leading photographers (from the international cooperative Magnum) will showcase views of Ibiza.

It’s sustainable as well: Six Senses Ibiza is the first on the Balearic islands to achieve BREEAM certification for its eco-friendly construction and design. Thoughtful building orientation maximizes natural ventilation and sunlight (and minimizes the need for air conditioning), while landscaping reduces water runoff and exterior lighting is aimed downward to avoid causing light pollution.

Delicious Cuisine

A 400-year-old olive press in nearby Santa Gertrudis has been transformed into Six Senses Ibiza’s own organic farm, providing fresh produce for the resort’s four restaurants. Farmers’ Market will be the signature spot for dinner. At his first European outpost, chef Eyal Shani (of Tel Aviv’s Miznon, fame), will serve vegetable-forward dishes at long, communal tables. Other restaurants, including The Piazza and The Orchard, will also showcase farm-fresh Mediterranean ingredients.

A World of Wellness

True to Six Senses fashion, the Ibiza resort will be a haven for well-being. A whopping 12,900 square-feet of space is devoted to wellness, including an indulgent spa with a hammam, steam room, five treatment rooms and “RoseBar,” with its age-defying biohack offerings like cryotherapy and compression boots, which promote longevity. An additional building houses the fitness center and multiple workout studios, with an outdoor boxing ring and rooftop yoga deck as well. One experience we’re excited for: guided meditation…while snorkeling! And twice a year, the resort is planning on hosting immersive, multi-day retreats, bringing wellness warriors from around the world to gather together for a communal, transformative experience.

Music on the Med

Taking cues from its music-obsessed location, Six Senses Ibiza will add its own spin to Ibiza’s creative scene. Guests, visitors and locals will be able to mingle at Beach Caves, its waterfront music venue featuring a high-tech sound system from McIntosh and Sonus Faber. Beach Caves will host live shows, artist sessions and events, and a large vinyl collection will keep the music going even when someone isn’t performing. (And for the musically gifted guests, one guest room will even have its own recording studio.)

Activity Overdrive

Yes, guests can spend their days relaxing poolside or enjoying rejuvenative spa treatments, but myriad on- and off-property adventures also await. Cooking classes and farm experiences will be ideal for visiting gourmands, while stand-up paddle boarding, snorkeling, kayaking and cliff jumping will draw the more active visitors to the crystal clear waters just offshore.
