Lay of the Land
Though technically part of Andalusia, Marbella is its own seaside entity, and for decades has been the vacation destination of glamorous sun worshippers. East of the Gibralter Strait, the beaches benefit from calmer Mediterranean Sea waters rather than those of the rougher Atlantic Ocean. The two Indagare-recommended hotels in Marbella are located on the beach, a five-minute drive south of the Old Town. Guests often drive their rental cars or take taxis into town for meals, snacks or shopping.
The nearest airport is in Málaga, which receives flights from various European cities and multiple each day from London, Madrid and Barcelona. The drive from Málaga to Marbella takes about 30 minutes and the roads are very good.
