Faustino Gran Review
With a discreet entrance along a cobblestone street, this Relais & Châteaux hotel is the most elegant option for those staying in Ciutadella. Originally a family home, the property combines modern design with old-world grandeur, complete with soaring ceilings, a grand staircase and checkerboard tile floors.
Guests are welcomed with a sleek, sparsely furnished lobby with whitewashed walls that leads to a beautiful shaded terrace. This patio haven, set among landscaped gardens and sculptures, is filled with intimate alcove seating and dining nooks. Breakfast is served here, and the hotel’s small but lovely pool sits nearby. The 24 rooms and suites are decorated with crisp white fabrics, blonde wood accents and exposed-beam ceilings. The two-bedroom suite has its own terrace overlooking the garden and nearby harbor.
Despite Faustino Gran’s small size, it boasts a number of facilities, including a small spa with two treatment rooms and an indoor pool, an intimate library and a lounge bar. The signature restaurant, Agua, serves elegant Mediterranean fare in the small indoor dining room or on the terrace, with standout dishes like swordfish Carpaccio and monkfish and prawn ceviche. There is a wealth of activities available on Menorca, and guests should take advantage of the hotel’s many offerings, including horseback riding, boating and cultural excursions.
Who Should Stay
Laid-back couples and families with older children who prefer to be within walking distance of the restaurants and sites of Ciutadella.
Getting There
Menorca is a 45-minute flight from Palma, Mallorca, and 3-4 hours by boat or ferry from Mallorca’s northeast coast. Due to unpredictable weather, the ferry can be unpleasant, so flying is recommended. Faustino Gran is located on the island’s southwest coast in Ciutadella, approximately 45 minutes from the airport.
When to Go
High season in Menorca is from May-September, with August being the busiest month. Travelers should visit in June or July to experience warm weather before the crowds arrive.
