In the heart of the White City, in a collection of landmarked Bauhaus buildings in Tel Aviv, the Norman is a private boutique oasis that melds history and modernity: it took eight years to restore and combine two mansions, with architectural influences ranging from Modernist to Renaissance. The 30 rooms in the main building and the 20 residential suites next door all have high ceilings, plenty of natural light and stylish furnishings with clean lines and Art Deco jewel tones and interesting touches like hand mirrors hung on a wall. Best of all, there’s a Library Bar, multiple restaurants (including a French brasserie and a new izakaya-style restaurant) and a rooftop pool with a sunset view. The Norman is also steps from Rothschild Boulevard, so it’s an ideal base for exploring art galleries, restaurants and shops; the beach is just a 10-minute bike ride away.

The Standout: The Norman’s lovely garden, various courtyards and many nooks and crannies for lounging and dining Don’t Miss: The chic Library Bar, with artisan cocktails and a cool vibe

Review

The Norman effortlessly blends 20th-century glamour with modern amenities in the heart of Tel Aviv. Designed in a minimalist style and housed in an elegant mansion, it is the perfect stylish base from which to explore the city. With its central location near Rothschild Boulevard, several art galleries nearby and the beach only 10 minutes away by bike, the well-located property offers high design and a sense of being in a private oasis in a city full of high-rise hotels. For example, the small interior citrus garden and quaint courtyards are ideal spots to enjoy a drink or bite to eat.

The property features two buildings: the main structure houses the lobby, Library Bar and several guest rooms, and an annexed building set on the other side of the citrus garden contains the suites. Spaces are bright and architecturally interesting: the lobby has an atrium roof that allows for lots of light and a lofty ambience while maintaining the original details of the heritage building. All 50 guest rooms and suites at The Norman are unique, contemporary in style and have antique touches that create an elegant, luxurious and chic vibe with the modern comforts one would expect from a five-star hotel. Rooms are best suited for only two people, so families and those who value a lounging area should book the suites, which are spacious by comparison and feature ample living or dining areas. All are decorated with a neutral palette and have high ceilings, luxurious linens, large marble bathrooms and plenty of natural light.

Though The Norman is a boutique hotel, no detail was overlooked in the making of its grounds and facilities. The property offers a state-of-the-art business center, a fitness and wellness facility and a modest rooftop infinity-edge pool overlooking the cityscape. There are two dining outlets: Alena, an all-day high end brasserie that focuses on local produce, and Dinings, an outpost of a popular London eatery that serves Japanese-style tapas. The gorgeous Library Bar is a good spot for aperitifs while the Conservatory provides a quieter lounge space overlooking the bright atrium.

Who Should Stay

Couples, friends and families who seek personality and panache in their lodgings will be happy here. Those looking to be centrally located will appreciate the hotel’s easy access to museums, galleries and restaurants. If easy beach access is a priority, consider booking one of the waterfront properties.
