At a Glance

At the Ritz-Carlton New Orleans, a large corporate hotel that's a favorite for conferences, history blends with modern amenities for a predictable Ritz experience.

Review

A prime example of classic southern luxury, the Ritz manages to be feminine and romantic without being frilly. With 527 rooms and suites, the property is huge, but multiple small public areas allow for cozy experiences. The leafy and spacious courtyard off of the lobby is an especially serene place to relax.

As seems to be a theme in New Orleans, service can suffer from inconsistency, but the staff is friendly. Guest rooms are classically decorated with modern touches; the suites have a more formal Neoclassical design with Louis XVI accents, canopied beds and beautiful hardwood floors. The best suites are on the club level, where service is kept at a higher standard and meals and snacks are offered throughout the day.

The imposing hotel located right on Canal St. (at the southwestern edge of the French Quarter) is across the street from The Roosevelt, and a few blocks from the French Quarter. As a result, it is popular with those in town for business and conferences, and the property can have a corporate feel.

The Davenport Lounge features live music with a devoted following. There is a large spa and fitness center, rarities in the city that seems to revere bartenders over barbells.

Who Should Stay

The easy access to the Roosevelt, host of many conferences, as well as a great gym, makes the hotel popular with business travelers.
