Bermuda Rising

With the warm west winds at my back and the faint smell of hibiscus swarming my senses, riding through the canopied, winding roads of Bermuda feels familiar. I’ve been coming to this island since childhood, and over the years the archipelago of Bermuda remains steadfast, like an unwavering friend ready with open arms and an open heart. Contact Indagare for assistance planning a trip to Bermuda. Our specialists will book you at the hotel that is right for you, plan great meals and activities, arrange behind-the-scenes access and introduce you to our favorite guides.

Although Bermuda’s intrinsic charms haven’t changed—sweeping vistas, pink-sand beaches and gracious hospitality—the past decades have reduced the once glamorous haven into a fading classic, as it was passed over for more chic destinations in the Caribbean. But today, with no Zika in sight and direct two-hour flights from New York (it's a seven-hour flight from London), the subtropical isle is continuing the renaissance launched by the 2017 America’s Cup and is in the spotlight again thanks to a game-changing new hotel.

On an island as entrenched in its traditions as Bermuda, The Loren is a stylish reflection of its current metamorphosis. A departure from the British colonial architecture and design that typifies many resorts here, this five-star oasis is decidedly modern. The sleek, glass-enclosed lobby overlooks the turquoise sea with minimalist furnishings, whimsical lighting and a dramatic spiral staircase. This contemporary aesthetic extends to the sophisticated rooms, suites and villas, which boast floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto terraces overlooking the sparkling coastline. An infinity-edge pool was carved into the rock above the private, pink-sand beach and Maree, The Loren’s fine-dining restaurant, is committed to serving locally sourced cuisine.

And while the season may be ending soon, the weather is still gorgeous on the island haven, and ideal for an last-minute, end-of-summer getaway. You won't be the only ones headed there: both a Ritz-Carlton Reserve and St. Regis are set to open in coming years. It seems that Bermuda’s exciting tide of development and innovation shows no signs of stopping.

When To Go

Sub-tropical in nature, Bermuda has remarkably temperate weather. The winter months (December-March) see an average temperature of 65-70°F. The hottest part of the year, between May and October, ranges from 75-85°F. It rains occasionally throughout the year (slightly more in the winter), but precipitation only occurs in short spurts.

Getting There

Visitors coming from New York can hop on a plane and have their toes in the sand in less than two hours. Several major airlines, including Delta, American and JetBlue, offer nonstop flights.

Getting Around

To live like a local, rent a moped or scooter and whiz around the historic capital, Hamilton, and beyond. A car and driver can also be hired.
