Review

Having hosted multiple U.S. Open and amateur tournaments, the storied Pebble Beach Golf Links course is rated the top public golf course in America. Commanding a spectacular setting that wends around the majestic bluffs of Monterey, Pebble Beach is on the bucket list of any golf enthusiast. Want to book a tee time? You need to book a stay.

Opened in 1919, The Lodge at Pebble Beach is the premier accommodation by the course with 161 guest rooms, five restaurants and a host of amenities. The modern rooms and suites are spread between the main lodge and 11 additional buildings, and have been recently renovated in neutral tones. Many have floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that open onto expansive decks with views over the golf course and the Pacific.

The newest accommodation at The Lodge is **Fairway One; **a new build that opened in 2017, it offers 30 large guest rooms located on the first hole and two standalone cottages, named for Arnold Palmer and Clint Eastwood (both owners of Pebble Beach). The rooms’ interiors are modern and the décor is coastal-inspired, with neutral tones, plush linens and framed prints, and some even have partial ocean views. Families or large groups should book the cottages that sit right on Fairway One, which each have four bedrooms, huge living rooms and outdoor terraces with fire pits.

On property, there are five dining outlets, ranging from a contemporary seafood restaurant to a classic American tavern. The 22,000-square-foot spa is renowned, with 25 treatment rooms, a full-service salon and an outdoor pool. Guests also have access to The Beach and Tennis Club with 12 tennis courts, a fitness center, an oceanfront pool and beach club restaurant as well as access to water activities such as kayaking, stand up paddle board and sailing. Pebble Beach’s Equestrian Center has almost 30 miles of marked forest trails and offers lessons and pony rides for younger guests. Of course, golf is why most guests come to Pebble Beach and in addition to the legendary Pebble Beach course, there are four other golf courses nearby that golfers can play, including Spyglass and Spanish Bay, which are part of Pebble Beach Resorts. There is also a highly acclaimed golf academy, where guests can take lessons, enroll in camps and learn from some of the world’s top pros. Off property, guests should explore the beautiful coastline along 17-Mile Drive that fronts Pebble Beach, and the lodge offers complimentary bikes for guests and two-hour Lexus rentals.

Who Should Stay

Golf aficionados who want to play America’s most fabled and top-rated course and stay at Pebble Beach’s top accommodations, and families who want access to be by the beach and have access to lots of activities.
