Suite at Carneros Inn, Napa Valley, California

Carneros Resort and Spa

This 86-cottage inn, part of the PlumpJack group of hotels and restaurants, adds a modern, Californian touch to the valley’s lodging options. Located in the southern end of the Napa Valley, the inn is just under 50 miles from San Francisco. Set on 27 acres and surrounded by vineyards, farmland and apple orchards, this is what a tech billionaire's gentlemanly farm would feel like. Everything is top-of-the-line but so casual that a coat and tie may never have been seen here. The cottages have fireplaces, flat-screen TVs and gorgeous bathrooms with adjacent outdoor showers. The family suite has adjoining cottages with an extra-large backyard. There’s a children’s pool with changing rooms and a snack bar and the farm restaurant draws a trendy evening crowd.

Deluxe King Room at Hotel Yountville, Napa Valley, California

Hotel Yountville

Hotel Yountville puts you in the heart of Yountville, home to some of the best restaurants in the Napa Valley, including French Laundry. The hotel is spread over five acres and features a lovely pool and the expansive Spa Aqua. All rooms have four-poster beds, rain showers and deep soaking tubs. Ground-floor rooms have private patios, while second-floor rooms have vaulted ceilings. Be sure to book a room not overlooking the road, as rooms are not ideally soundproofed. After the spectacular gourmet breakfast in the Hopper Creek Kitchen, take a complimentary bike, a specially prepared picnic and ride past the vineyards of the Napa Valley, hopefully burning off some energy so you can get ready for a fabulous Yountville dinner in the evening. Just be sure to return to the hotel in time for the afternoon wine tasting.

Napa River Inn

With modern amenities and a green initiative program (including a river cleanup project, locally sourced bath products and construction using bricks made with clay from the nearby riverbed), the Napa River Inn manages to contemporize an otherwise quaint property. Antique furniture and claw-footed bathtubs remind one of the location’s long history. The boutique hotel is best suited for couples or a girl’s weekend, but all will appreciate the on-site bakery that makes and delivers piping hot muffins and croissants in wicker baskets each morning. Rooms overlooking the river offer scenic views, but can get noisy at times. In the lobby, don’t miss a handwritten inscription found beneath the mill’s original floorboard, made in 1885.
