Still funky after all these years, the Parker’s Jonathan Adler-pated 1960s décor remains the draw to this shrine of hotel design. Most recently, major renovations to many guest bathrooms, all twelve villas and minor updates elsewhere help to keep the Holly Golightly sparkle its fans adore.

Designer Jonathan Adler’s now classic mid-century interiors wowed the travel world when it opened in 2005. The property and its charming, landscaped grounds and pools still beguile, but almost two decades after its debut, some improvements were needed, with many now completed. For example: each of the 144-guest room baths have been transformed into fun house of lights and mirrors (another Adler idea).

Once owned by Western movie star Gene Autry, the property stands out as a uniquely captivating retreat (and despite its expansive size, maintains an air of privacy and exclusivity). Dotted within the lush greenery that fills the property, you can find hidden gems like croquet lawns, fire pit seating, a fragrant herb garden, hammocks, two pools and more, all while walking through the intricate pathways.

The main building upon arrival, hosting most of the hotel's dining and drinking spots, features a lobby that is a visual marvel – here you will find a glowing "Drugs" sign among shag pile rugs and other retro pieces.

And in terms of dining, there are no shortage of options. Norma's, bathed in a warm tangerine glow, offers a whimsical all-day outdoor experience. For a more relaxed sip and nibble, Counter Reformation's intimate wine bar with just 20 seats is your go-to. And if you fancy a bit of dark elegance, Mister Parker’s fine dining serves up classic cocktails and a seafood-centric dinner menu. There is even Mrs. Parker’s, self-deemed the “world’s smallest restaurant”, perfect for an intimate evening for two at the Gene Autry Pool after sunset.

It would be remiss to not mention the uniquely crafted rooms–imagine stepping through striking red lacquer doors into a realm where retro-regal aesthetics are reinvented twice a year by Adler. Each room is a visual feast, featuring vibrant patterned rugs, brightly colored furniture and accents, along with '70s-inspired wall art. Expect a space that is both chic and playful, sometimes with functionality taking a back seat.

The twelve recently renovated villas elevate the experience with a well-appointed living room, a separate bedroom and a kitchen stocked with complimentary snacks and beverages from the mini-bar. For the epitome of extravagant, retro-chic indulgence, reserve the two-bedroom Gene Autry Residence. This retreat features multiple outdoor spaces, a fully equipped kitchen, a massage room, a dry sauna and a clandestine screening room concealed behind a wall adorned with movie posters – a fun treat!

Buzzy, but not frenetic, the property remains the Palm Springs crib for its stylish clientele (mostly in their 30s and 40s now) who come for a weekend’s indulgence. There’s still a focus on a socializing. Even its spa—the navy-themed Palm Springs Yacht Club (PSYC)—has an informal vibe suited to its customers.

As Indagare Trip Designer Caroline Hansen noted after a previous stay, “the hotel is great for people watching and being in a “scene,” but not so great for someone looking to get away and detox in complete isolation. One should come to the property for its unique charm and quirky décor, while picky travelers expecting five-star service should avoid it..”

Couples, friend groups and those looking for a property with a certain insouciance in style and tone as well as a breakfast that’s served all day, just not at Tiffany’s.
