Owner and first-time hotelier Rick Caruso tasked his personal decorator to create the resort’s residential feel throughout its 161 garden bungalows, beachfront suites and public areas. In the main Manor House, a graceful grand staircase nods to designs from Paul Williams, architect of the Beverly Hills Hotel and homes of Hollywood royalty, including Frank Sinatra. Out back, two idyllic pools flank the Great Lawn, which leads across railroad tracks to the south-facing beach for lounging, swimming, surfing and kayaking. About those tracks: rather than attempt to obscure them, Rosewood Miramar Beach openly embraces them. Bartenders at the Beach Bar ring a bell announcing a passing train, while guests—cocktails in hand—cheer and clap as the daily Amtrak Pacific Surfliner charges by.
One of the pleasures of dining at Caruso’s, the hotel’s main restaurant, is its expansive wine list with more than 50 labels from across California, including Santa Barbara vineyards and top international wineries. And now, the resort is opening up its cellars for the Miramar Wine Collective. Boxes curated around themes—Coastal California, New World Pinot Noirs, Secret Wines of Italy—showcase exceptional producers and can be delivered to you long after you’ve checked out.
