Four Seasons Whistler Blackcomb

Considered one of the top resorts in Canada, the Four Seasons has almost everything you’d want in a ski hotel: spacious accommodations, top notch dining, spa and fitness services and easy access to the Village and the slopes. Two renovations, one in the main hotel and one in the residences, have brought a fresh feel to both the rooms and common spaces, effortlessly blending sleek modern design with the warm tones and glossy wooden accents one expects of an alpine-resort—for example, in a lounge of artful wooden tables and leather chairs, they've tucked a large, interactive screen with maps, dining options and a coloring function for kids.

The 273 rooms are elegant, but understated, most with soothing mountain or valley views and siseable accommodations. Guests can expect handsome furnishings done in leather and polished wood, cozy in-room fireplaces (the Signature suites have a fireplace in the bedroom, as well) and well-appointed bathrooms with ample mirrors and lighting options. Adjacent to the hotel but accessible via a separate entrance are the Four Seasons Residences, privately owned luxury condominiums, available to book. The residences are two-, three-, or four-plus bedrooms and feature every upscale convenience imaginable, from terraces and gourmet kitchens to ample living spaces and luxe bathrooms, with a more design-oriented take on alpine decor. These are best for families or longer stays.

The renovation debuted the new Braidwood Tavern (replacing the Fifty Two 80 bar) and Braidwood Café—the former serves an indulgent buffet breakfast, classy tavern fare and exquisite cocktails in a lounge-like restaurant space while the latter fills the grab-and-go need of early birds. The fine-dining restaurant, Sidecut is as popular as ever; voted the best hotel restaurant in Canada, it is a go-to for in-the-know Whistler regulars.

Additional amenities include two art galleries, a patio and outdoor oversized chess set and the spa and fitness center, which offer an assortment of excellent treatments, a sizable workout area and daily fitness classes. Accessible from the spa is the outdoor heated pool and three hot tubs all served by an outdoor bar.

The service is the best in Whistler, as one would expect from the Four Seasons (think complimentary wine tastings and s'mores on the patio). Though the mountain isn't ski-in/ski-out, the ski concierge at the base of Blackcomb Gondola could almost convince you that it is. Only a five minute stroll from the hotel, the concierge will hold all of your equipment, allowing you to boot-up on the ample benches while snacking on complimentary pastries; in the afternoon, there is hot chocolate and cookies to enjoy at the concierge or on your walk to the hotel. The path between the hotel, Upper Village and Whistler Village is easy to follow (5 and 15 minutes respectively) and for those who prefer not to walk, the resort's shuttle runs constantly between the hotel, residences, Upper Village and Whistler Village.
