After a $500-million-dollar renovation in 2015, the 1 Hotel opened in a nearly unrecognizable U-shaped building that used to house The Perry and, prior to that, Gansevoort hotel. The hip hotel, which occupies an entire oceanfront block and 600 feet of beach, seamlessly blends a stylish atmosphere with a strong eco-friendly focus. The 1 Hotel prides itself on using natural materials in artistic ways, from an enormous live plant wall façade to the use of repurposed woods throughout to foster a nature-inspired aesthetic. The location just above South Beach makes it ideal for guests looking to spend evenings at the restaurants, bars and clubs to the south and days relaxing in a more removed locale.
With an average room size of 700-square-feet, the 1 Hotel has the largest accommodations in all of South Beach. The 426 rooms and 84 suites have been beautifully designed with an airy, light aesthetic, and include plush beds, rustic wood furniture, oversized Carrara marble soaking tubs and rainfall showers. Natural materials such as driftwood and organic linens are incorporated without compromising comfort or luxury, and additional green touches come in the form of hangers made from recycled maps and books, glassware crafted from old wine bottles and in-room water filters that eliminate the need for plastic bottles. The best rooms are those with balconies that face the beach, allowing guests to enjoy the Miami sun with a bit of privacy.
The 1 Hotel has a private beach club and four pools. The South Deck pool is the closest to the ocean, while the Center Deck is the most family-friendly. The Cabana pool is designed for those who want to swim laps or enjoy a more intimate atmosphere. The adults-only space on the 18th floor boasts the largest rooftop pool in South Beach and stunning, 360-degree views.
Set in a particularly health-focused city, the wellness amenities at 1 Hotel are nothing less than outstanding. There is a fully equipped fitness center with personal trainers, the United States's largest hotel gym. The spa and complimentary daily fitness classes are great ways to detox after a long weekend.
The 1 Hotel South Beach has seven dining venues, all of which are helmed by five-time James Beard Award–winner Tom Colicchio. Watr, the rooftop restaurant, offers sustainable seafood and sushi for dinner. Other notable eateries include: The Sandbox, the casual poolside restaurant; Neighbors, the lobby café offering pressed juices and freshly baked pastries; Drift, the lobby bar; Plnthouse, a casual vegan café; Habitat, for daily breakfast and the new 1 Beach Club set to open in October. STK, an outpost of the popular steakhouse is housed in the building as well.
