Review

Located in the heart of Brickell in downtown Miami, EAST is a part of the Hong Kong–based Swire Hotel group that is known for its luxury properties in Asia. Opened in 2016, the high-design hotel affords guests luxury amenities and a serene, minimalist aesthetic. With interiors done by New York–based Clodagh Design, the property combines modern furnishings in earthen tones with beautiful custom artwork and destination restaurants that draw visitors not staying at the hotel.

The 352-property hotel offers regular guest rooms as well as suites and one-, two- and three-bedroom residences. All of the accommodations feature spacious balconies, contemporary interiors, walk-in showers and floor-to-ceiling windows with spectacular views of Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline. Plush sofas in neutral earth tones and abstract accent walls in a palette of blue, yellow and amber enhance the Zen aesthetic.

The 40-floor EAST has a plethora of luxury amenities, including four pools, a full-service spa and fitness center with state of the art equipment. The on-property dining options are spectacular, and include the hotly anticipated Quinto La Huella, which serves delicious Uruguayan cuisine. For cocktails, guests should opt for the rooftop restaurant, Sugar. Located on the 40th floor, the restaurant and bar offers sweeping views of the surrounding city.

While many first-time travelers to Miami will want to stay in South Beach, the Brickell area is up-and-coming and offers a subdued atmosphere. In 2016, Brickell welcomed several hot spot restaurants, and become one of the city’s most talked about neighborhoods. Much of this is due to the 2016 opening of Brickell City Center, which was also built by Swire. The sprawling, open-air retail center city is located next to EAST and filled with vibrant restaurants and luxury stores.

Who Should Stay

Frequent Miami visitors who want a break from South Beach and to explore Brickell. EAST is perfect for those who appreciate a modern aesthetic, but don’t need to be near a beach.
