The second outpost of José Ignacio’s iconic beachfront restaurant, Parador La Huella, opened in 2016 at the EAST hotel. Brian Williams, the managing director of the Swire Hotel group, which owns EAST, tried over 25 different restaurants in Uruguay before deciding he wanted to replicate La Huella at EAST. Quinto La Huella serves authentic South American fare in a refined setting and is so dedicated to its heritage that it imports many of its ingredients (beef, lamb, wine and olive oil) directly from Uruguay.
The wide-ranging menu highlights such fare as sushi, octopus a la plancha, grilled provolone and delicious steaks, which are cooked on an open-fire parrilla (grill). The eatery has both indoor and outdoor seating, but the beautiful garden terrace is where you want to reserve a table. Make sure to leave room for dessert: the molten dulce de leche cake is fantastic.
