Review
Situated on the southern side of the island in the warm, dry confines of Poipu, this hotel has 602 rooms, 37 of which are suites. The best part about staying here (besides the weather) is the dramatic open-air lobby overlooking the ocean and the beach action. The Hyatt also has two freshwater swimming pools, a 150-foot water slide and a five-acre man-made swimming lagoon with its own beach. A recent 20,000-square-foot addition to the Anara Spa makes it the second largest spa in all of Hawaii, and the seven hale huts and open-air lava rock showers are special touches.
Each room on the Grand Club floors comes with its own concierge, as well as a lounge where snacks are served throughout the day. Don’t leave without a visit to Stevenson’s Library, a sushi lounge just off the lobby. The club features a 25-foot long koa wood bar with hand-carved sugar cane and pineapple motifs, where there is live jazz every night alongside fresh seafood, sushi and sashimi.
Because the Grand Hyatt is so spread out across 50 acres, the distance between the spa and the restaurants, for example, can be quite far. Decide where you want to spend most of your time before-hand: the beach, spa, tennis courts or restaurants, and request a room nearby. If not, be prepared for a ten- or fifteen-minute walk to get from one side of the hotel to the other.
Who Should Stay
The hotel is a good option for families staying on Kauai’s sunnier southern shores.
