What to Expect

Itinerary highlights include:

  • Over five days at Chablé Yucatán, work towards inner peace, reflection and creativity through three journaling workshops guided by author and travel writer Mary Morris. Sessions will focus on the art of storytelling—and how you can use it to illuminate your own personal journey. Note: No previous creative writing experience is required.
  • Reset and re-energize with Chablé Yucatán’s spa and wellness treatments and specialty programming, including such experiences as: morning yoga in the cenote, walking meditation, chakra treatments, astrology consultations and detoxifying massages, all of which are rooted in ancient techniques.

A teacher of Mary Morris’ once said that there are only two plots in all of literature: you go on a journey, or a stranger comes to town. Long ago, Morris embraced the journey. From the dusty towns of Latin America to the Trans-Siberian Railway and, most recently, the jungles of India, Morris has chronicled her travels as a single woman alone on the road, around the globe, for over 25 years. The author of sixteen books including Nothing to Declare: Memoirs of a Woman Traveling Alone (1988)Wall to Wall: from Beijing to Berlin by Rail (1991), and All the Way to the Tigers (2020), Morris is the recipient of the Rome Prize in Literature and the 2016 Anisfield-Wolf Award for fiction. She has also contributed extensively in such magazines as AFAR, The New York Times, Travel & Leisure, Islands, and Town & Country.

When Morris is not traveling she lives in Brooklyn, New York with her family, three dogs and a parrot.  She is also on the writing faculty at Sarah Lawrence College.
