Review

Everyone knows the importance of first impressions. At the Resort at Pedregal, the arrival road takes guests through a mountain tunnel, where chandeliers cast a dim, almost eerie light on the roughly hewn rocks. The tunnel emerges at the resort, with a direct view to the sea, where a butler greets guests by name and offers a margarita. As first impressions go, this one is pretty good.

Although the property is within walking distance from Cabo San Lucas town, guests feel miles away looking out over the Pacific. The décor feels distinctly Mexican, blending modern design with more rustic touches, such as wooden headboards and beamed ceilings. The major advantage of the property is that every single room has ocean views as well as a terrace with a private plunge pool and fire pit. As beautiful as the resort’s infinity pool and palapa bar may be, the comfort and privacy of these terraces may keep guests closer to home.

The resort serves as both a romantic escape for couples as well as a luxurious resort for families (the sprawling three- and four-bedroom residences, located closer to the family pool with spacious bedrooms and full kitchens, appeal most to families). Like the hotel rooms, the residences also all have private terraces and plunge pools. Some of the rooms are more private than others, something to consider when booking.

For couples, there are romantic beach dinners and a destination-worthy spa, where the treatment rooms sit in individual island pods in the spa pool. The property also boasts a fully equipped gym and a beautiful infinity pool. Parents will enjoy taking their children to the family pool, as well as to the kids’ club, which offers half- or full-day programs with activities ranging from Spanish lessons to cooking classes or scavenger hunts.

Don Manuel’s restaurant offers a full-service juice bar as part of their extensive breakfast spread. El Farallon, the prix fixe restaurant carved literally into the cliff-side, is an experience unto itself. As guests walk in, they can select their own freshly-caught fish to be prepared and served along with other fresh local produce and sides.

With only 66 rooms and 24 suites, the the Resort at Pedregal is much smaller than Palmilla and Esperanza and offers a similar romantic, intimate vibe as Las Ventanas, albeit a little less sexy. The food, especially breakfast, and service are excellent.

Indagare Note: As of May 2016, the sand erosion is extensive and the beach is almost non-existent. On many days there is machinery working to move sand that has piled up against the wall of the pool. The property is working now to consider long-term solutions.

Who Should Stay

Couples who want a hideaway with a private pool and outdoor space, as well as families who prefer a more boutique resort experience within walking distance to town. Those families that need a wide beach, space to run around or many activities for older children and teenagers should consider One &Only Palmilla instead.
