The Andaz Mayakoba is the fourth and final property developed within the Riviera Maya’s sprawling Mayakoba complex, which also includes Rosewood Mayakoba, Banyan Tree Mayakoba and Fairmont Mayakoba. Guests are welcomed into an impressive yet serene oasis, also known as the Sanctuary, featuring an oculus and circular pool of water at the center. Designed to reflect the ancient cenotes (or mystical underground reservoirs found throughout the region), this striking entrance sets the tone for the rest of the property. Nods to the local culture are a recurring theme here: At check-in, guests are offered a colored stone to toss into the pool of water and make a wish to mark the beginning of their stay.

Situated on the Caribbean Sea and around a lagoon that runs through the Mayakoba complex, the property sprawls across 590 acres and encompasses 214 spacious guest rooms, including 41 suites. The lush grounds contrast with the 29 white and stone buildings, some of which are emblazoned with large depictions of local birds, referencing the surrounding environment. Rooms and suites are light-filled, contemporary and minimalist, but include accents of color and Mayan-inspired décor, with traditional crafts placed in every room. Suites have private outdoor balconies with plunge pools. Guests should decide in advance if they want an oceanfront or ocean-view room, or if they prefer to stay inland (closer to the lagoon). Be advised: It is about a five- to ten-minute golf cart ride or a 20-minute walk from the lagoon side of the property to the beach. Bikes are stationed throughout the property for guests to use.

There are two large pool areas on the property, one on the lagoon side and one beachside. The beach is just steps away from the main pool and a great taco bar, allowing guests easy and direct access to and from the ocean. The four on-site restaurants all showcase a strong Mexican and Latin American influence and are welcoming of both adults and children. Casa Amate is the most formal and is uniquely designed to resemble the home of an eclectic traveler with a passion for Latin culture. Traditional Latin dishes served at the restaurant include beef pachamanca, empanadas, and Peruvian huancaina octopus. The hotel also has a fantastic mixology team and they use a variety of Mexican spirits, locally sourced ingredients and homemade syrups, such as purple basil, to craft creative cocktails and mocktails at every restaurant and bar on the property. Guests can participate in curated mixology classes and tastings.

Additional amenities include a spacious, state-of-the-art gym as well as the Naum spa, named after the Mayan God of consciousness and mind. It draws upon Mayan influences in its design, treatments and hydrotherapy rooms. Treatments are based on native Mayan rituals, reflective of the mind, body and spirit. As the hotel is part of the Mayakoba complex, guests are also able to use the championship 18-hole golf course designed by Greg Norman. The hotel offers a variety of both adults-only and family-friendly activities on-and off-property, including a visit to a nearby cenote, Mezcal tastings, sunrise yoga on the beach and an eco-cruise along the Mayakoba lagoon (if guests are lucky, they might spot a turtle or baby crocodile). The hotel also has a fantastic kids’ program for guests between the ages of four and 12, which includes activities such as arts and crafts and a turtle conservation program.
