Tucked between Mexico’s luxe Mayan Riviera and the expansive Sian Ka’an Biosphere, Tulum has, until recently, been a well-kept secret of eco-conscious travelers in search of life’s simple pleasures: a great climate, a perfect beach, simply-prepared seafood and a strong margarita.

Designing Your Journey

Work with Indagare to design the perfect itinerary for an immersive journey. Our travel experts know the destination inside and out, and they can make recommendations based on your travel needs and preferences.

  • 5 Days: Essential Tulum-LP

    5 Days: Essential Tulum

Tulum offers beach-lounging, yoga, archaeological sites and cenotes, snorkeling, kite-surfing, catamaran-cruising and fun, low-key nightlife. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.

    • Day 1-2: Ruins and Cenotes

Visit with a guide the ancient Mayan city of Tulum. Forty-five minutes away, the region around Coba is home to the Nohoch Mul Pyramid, which can be climbed. Further afield, Chichen Itzá is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. A not-to-be-missed experience is a visit to one of the cenotes, ancient sinkholes with underground water tunnels. Your expert guide can take you swimming to see the natural formations of stalactites and stalagmites.

    • Day 3: Sian Ka’an

The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is a protected area made up of marshes, mangroves, virgin tropical forest and stunning, unspoiled beaches. The area is home to a large variety of animals including crocodiles, dolphins, turtles and hundreds of types of birds. A visit here can occur by foot, boat and swimming and should be done accompanied by an expert guide.

    • Day 4-5: Beach Time

The best snorkeling in Tulum is found around the Punta Maroma Reef, a shallow area that attracts fish such as rays, parrotfish and turtles. Reaching the reef from Tulum requires about a 30-minute car drive then a 15-minute boat trip, along which you’ll have the opportunity to see the region from land and sea. Back in Tulum, we recommend taking at least one yoga or meditation class, which occur on property at most Indagare-recommended hotels.

“We discovered that we could buy a more expensive ticket to the Tulum ruins to enter the park at closing time for an hour with only a few other people, at sunset. It was extraordinary.”

“Tulum, in Mexico, is magical. I can’t think of any other place in the world that casts its spell so quickly. As soon as you come up for air after your first dive in the warm turquoise sea there, you’ve already forgotten what day and time it is.”

“You’re surrounded by incredible nature in a place that’s rightly famous for yoga, meditation and a laid-back lifestyle. Anyone who tries to impose something on Tulum that it is not loses. This place has its priorities intact.”
