Built as a “shrine to the ideals of the game,” the International Tennis Hall of Fame occupies the Newport Casino where the very first U.S. Open match was played in 1881. The building and its museum were recently restored and today you can not only watch matches on the famous courts and explore the history of the sport in the museum, which is a National Historic Landmark and one of the best examples of Victorian shingled architecture in the country, but you can even play on the hallowed grass courts.
