The Preservation Society of Newport County oversees the protection, preservation and presentation of the great historic mansions of Newport and has done so for more than sixty years. Among the extravagant houses that are worth a visit are The Breakers, the 70-room summer home of Cornelius Vanderbilt II, and Marble House, a National Historic Landmark, which was inspired by the Petit Trianon at Versailles. Many of the houses have audio tours that tell the colorful stories of past residents. For those interested in fashion, Rosecliff features a costume collection, which includes pieces by Chanel and Givenchy. If you plan to visit more than one mansion, consider buying the Newport Mansion Experience pass, which allows access to five historic houses.

Tip: Personal tours can be arranged for small groups. Indagare members can contact our Bookings Team to help arrange visits.
