Newport & Coastal Rhode Island

America’s First Resort,” Newport has set itself apart from New England’s other seaside enclaves for nearly four centuries. The town celebrates its colonial architecture and Gilded Age mansions with style, and its harbor is a yachting mecca. Just beyond the sailboat-filled waters of Narragansett Harbor, Rhode Island’s Atlantic coast is a dreamy string of sandy beaches, with several towns (and hotels) worthy of a trip in their own right.

    3 Days: Essential Newport

Enjoy the charm, history and style of Newport with a customized itinerary that features guided touring and classes. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.

    • Day One:

After a pleasant breakfast at your hotel, get to know the area through one of Newport’s top attractions, a three-and-a-half mile walking trail that wends along the shoreline where many of the Gilded Age “Cottages” were built. Enjoy fresh lobster rolls before heading to the beach for lessons in kayaking, surfing or sailing before cocktails and dinner at an Indagare-recommended restaurant.

    • Day Two:

Start your day with an insider-access tour of Newport’s beautiful historic mansions. Among the extravagant houses that are worth a visit are The Breakers, the 70-room summer home of Cornelius Vanderbilt II, and Marble House, a National Historic Landmark. Enjoy a long lunch at the Castle Hill Dining Room & Lawn, then spend the rest of the day shopping and exploring town.

    • Day Three:

For your last day in Newport, Indagare can arrange a guided historical walking tour that includes such important sites as Trinity Church, or you can catch events like regattas and music festivals, which are held throughout the year. We also recommend a day trip to Block Island, a charming vacation community filled with historic homes and boasting pretty beaches. Enjoy one final New England meal at an Indagare-recommended restaurant before departure.

"The Porch restaurant had terrific service and great food and cocktails. It was a convivial and fun environment. Make sure you get a table on the porch."

“An institution in Newport, the Clarke Cook House is as famous for its dining options as it is for its late-night revelry. The SkyBar and nightclub Boom Boom Room are the hottest post-dinner drinks and dancing spots in town.”
