Castle Hill Dining Room & Lawn
Though he now calls New England home, Chef Karsten Hart originally hails from New Orleans and grew up with one German and one Italian parent. Hart's menu emphasizes seafood and many dishes, such as the fluke and lobster etouffee and a delicious muffaletta, celebrate his background.
The best dishes on the menu are the double-stuffed lobster roll, steamed littleneck clams and Jonah crab stuffed quahogs. The Dining Room and Lawn have the same menus, but very different atmospheres. Whereas the Dining Room is more formal and popular with an older crowd, during the summer months, the Lawn is the place to be, overlooking the water and a lawn covered with white Adirondack chairs.
Le Petite Gourmet
Part gourmet food shop and part café, Le Petite Gourmet serves a delicious lunch to locals and in-the-know visitors. The menu changes daily but is consistently wonderful, emphasizing nourishing comfort foods like flavorful frittata and hearty salads. For a more indulgent route, the cheese counter is one of the best I've seen and there are tasty crackers and flatbreads for sale.
Smoke House
The barbeque joint Smoke House has been around for a while but only recently developed a cult following for its specialty cocktails and southern fare. Don't miss the pulled pork nachos, fried green tomatoes and drinks like the Lynchburg Lemonade. The restaurant's setting on the water makes it a good lunch or cocktail choice for those strolling Thames Street and the wharfs.
