At a Glance
One of the only Relais & Châteaux properties in Connecticut, Winvian Farm draws foodies, families and active couples to its 113-acre property in upscale Litchfield County.
Review
Winvian Farm is comprised of 19 cottages, all of which have a luxurious feel thanks to plush beds and steam showers. Each is designed according to a unique theme: the “Helicopter” Cottage houses a fully-restored 1958 Sikorsky Sea King Pelican helicopter; the “Artist” Cottage resembles an airy artisan studio; and the “Tree House” is suspended 35 feet in the air. Some cottages are situated closer to the main building (where the restaurant and communal lounges are located), while others are up to a ten-minute walk away, though the attentive staff is always on hand to drive guests back and forth.
The property is a foodie heaven, with a kitchen helmed by an executive chef who trained under Daniel Boulud and Alain Ducasse. Impeccable dishes such as the house smoked salmon, gnocchi and brioche French toast are worth the trip alone. The 5,000-square-foot spa features excellent massages, as well as a chromo therapy tub treatment in which multiple muscle-relaxing jets work their magic. One of the top offerings is the Biologique Recherce Ultimate Facial, a nearly two-hour treatment that is a “cosmetic alternative to injections,” using hyaluronic acid to lift and smooth the skin.
In the summer, the hotel opens its swimming pool, which features food and beverage service, and there are plenty of off-property activities available year-round. Winvian Farm is surrounded by the largest nature and wildlife sanctuary in the state, and there are trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
Who Should Stay
Couples looking for an easy romantic getaway, as well as families traveling during designated times (children are welcome on holidays and from Memorial Day through Labor Day). The property would also work well for a corporate retreat.
