Review

This luxurious inn is housed in an elegant 18th-century mansion in the heart of East Hampton, facing Town Pond. Set on a lush property that has been impeccably landscaped, Hedges Inn was converted into a B&B and its current owner has infused it with a welcoming, beach-house feel. The décor is elegant, yet simple with cozy spots to read a book, comfy furniture and candy jars brimming with old-fashioned sweets. However, despite the casual-chic décor, the inn boasts a priceless Thomas Moran painting in the foyer that eclipses an entire wall of the main floor and depicts a mythic sailing scene from Homer’s Odyssey.

The 13 rooms range from comfortably sized to petite and are decorated in a soothing, sea-inspired palette of beiges, robin egg blue and navy. The best rooms are Rooms One and Two, which are both located on the second floor and have large windows overlooking the front lawn and the town pond. The property was renovated in 2016, so the bathrooms are modern, but small. For families, there is a two-bedroom suite, but note that there is only one tiny bathroom. There are also rooms that can be connected with a common foyer and door.

Hedges serves a delectable breakfast every morning in the light-filled breakfast room or outside on the canopied terrace. There is a two-course hot option, which may include such items as blueberry French toast, egg bakes or breakfast sandwiches and there always a bountiful buffet of fruits, freshly made pastries and cereals. There is also an honor bar of soft drinks, wine and mid-afternoon snacks.

The property has a perfect location between the beach and the village and is about a 15-minute walk from each. There are also complimentary bikes for guests to use. The hotel provides beach towels, beach umbrellas, chairs, boogie boards and beach toys for young ones.
