Review
The Point is located on a 75-acre peninsula on Upper Saranac Lake. Formerly the home of William Avery Rockefeller, built at a time when well-heeled New Yorkers would decamp to the Adirondacks for months at a time, The Point has a cult following of longtime devotees. Lovingly restored in the mid-2000’s, by Laurie and Pierre Lapeyre, the property has 11 rooms, all decorated to evoke the rustic grandeur of the Great Camp era. All pay homage to the property’s hundred-year history, but our favorite has always been The Boathouse, with its nautical décor and ideal location overlooking the waterfront.
At The Point, in spring and summer, guests spend their days hiking, boating, playing tennis, fishing, kayaking and paddle boarding. In autumn and winter, guests explore the property’s veritable winter wonderland during a snow-covered hike, a cross-country skiing excursion, or a skate atop Saranac Lake.
The Point is a hotel that feels like home, and for that, we have to thank the incredible team that manages and operates it. As much as a stay here is about the historic atmosphere, the charmingly rustic rooms, the fresh air and the sound of a crackling fire, it is the people that make The Point—that are the point. The essence of The Point is about fueling camaraderie and fun, with your fellow friends, family members and guests. Even if you’re more apt to take your hot toddy to bed with you, the team at The Point will help guide you to your room with a glowing lantern.
Who Should Stay
Foodies, couples and groups of adult friends looking to indulge in a beautiful, epicurean environment with sedate, outdoorsy activities. The property welcomes travelers who are 18 years and older.
