The Top 10: Alfresco Hamptons Dining

To celebrate Memorial Day and the beginning of summer, the Indagare team has compiled a list of some of our favorite open-air restaurants in the Hamptons. Read our full Hamptons dining report.

1. Surf Lodge, Montauk

The Surf Lodge restaurant was inspired by the natural beauty and history of Montauk. An organic, market-driven menu features seafood fresh off the fishing boats of Montauk Harbor and produce is taken directly from local farms around Long Island. The deck overlooking the water, where strings of lights hang above candlelit tables, is the perfect spot for dinner. After dining, head out to the sandy lounge for a few cocktails.

2. Wölffer Estate Vineyard, Sagaponack

Don't miss Sunset Fridays and Saturdays at Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack. Guests grab a bottle of wine and cheese plate and settle in at a picnic table as the sun sets over the vineyards.

Moby’s rustic, market-driven menu sources from the best local farms and serves classic fare, like their signature Neapolitan-style pizza. The lively indoor space is draped with muted lights to create a comfortable, though bustling, ambience, while the outdoor area is especially perfect for an after-dinner cocktail.

5. Sunset Beach, Shelter Island

André Balazs’s brilliant beach café and hotel is one part St. Barth’s seaside restaurant and one part East Coast beach motel, and the mix of chic and simple is winning. Whether you come for a lunch by boat or to watch the sunset from the rooftop tables, a meal here with friends should be part of everyone’s summer in Long Island.

6. Gurney's Beach Club, Montauk

One of Montauk's biggest hot spots, Gurney’s attracts a crowd of beautiful Long Islanders and visitors. With the only beachfront food and beverage service in the Hamptons, Gurney's fosters a party vibe all day long.

7. The Living Room, East Hampton

Serving Scandinavian-inspired cuisine that’s focused on locally grown, seasonal products, The Living Room emphasizes a slow-food philosophy and has a lovely garden terrace that is open in the summer.

8. Tutto Il Giorno, Southampton

This cozy Italian restaurant, run by Donna Karan's daughter Gaby Karan de Felice, is the perfect spot for an intimate dinner. The 38-seat place with a patio does not take reservations, and dishes like fritto misto and homemade pastas ensure the wait will always be long.

9. Bay Kitchen Bar, East Hampton

Bay Kitchen Bar affords its patrons stellar views of Gardiners Bay and Three Mile Harbor. Particularly picturesque during sunset, the seafood-focused eatery has a great happy hour with $2 oysters from 4-7pm.

10. Navy Beach, Montauk

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="620"] Courtesy James Katsipis[/caption] A slightly more low-key alternative to the Surf Lodge, Navy Beach is another of Montauk's best alfresco spots (and if you arrive by boat, you are given a free bottle of rosé). It is the perfect option for a lazy Sunday bunch or sunset cocktails that melt into dinner. Park yourself on one of the large daybeds overlooking Fort Pond Bay and you won't be disappointed.
