25 North Cache Street, jackson hole
307-733-2207
Cavernous and boisterous, with the famous neon sign flashing from its roof, the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar is one of Jackson’s iconic watering holes. Saddle-shaped stools—which become uncomfortable for anyone but a seasoned cowboy after about three minutes—line the two long bars, and the walls are covered with Native American and cowboy memorabilia, reflecting the place’s long history: it was the first bar in Wyoming to be awarded a liquor license following the repeal of Prohibition in the 1930s. It draws a mixture of locals, who occupy the pool tables in the middle of the space, and tourists, who have their photos taken sitting on the saddles and standing next to the stuffed animals, or who just browse in the adjacent gift shop.
