Galena Lodge

Sun Valley

As one drives into the Sawtooth Forest on a lonely highway, the beauty of Idaho unfolds: lofty mountains, the churning Big Wood River and jagged pine trees. Galena Lodge, a rustic, storybook cabin, comes into sight, encircled by winding trails like a wreath against a backdrop of Boulder Mountains.

Galena, a haven for nature lovers, offers magnificent trails and some of the best Nordic skiing in the nation. In the summer, guests can horseback ride, mountain bike or hike, while children are occupied at the fantastic, adventure-fueled kids camp.

The trails are open for Nordic skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, and it is not uncommon to see the Sun Valley Cross-Country team racing around these parts. The charming lodge offers gourmet dining, wagon rides and the opportunity to overnight on a mountaintop yurt. Although removed from the heart of Sun Valley, Galena is so beloved by Wood River community that it feels integral to the area and is a day trip worth taking.
