Family Time Out West: Member Postcard

Just back from a fun-filled family trip to the American West, Indagare member Leigh Geller shares highlights for travelers planning similar journeys.

Our journey started in Sedona, Arizona. We did an off-road Jeep tour of the area that my kids loved and asked to go on again (once was enough for me). After that, we spent a day at the Grand Canyon with our wonderful guide. Indagare was absolutely right: one day at the Grand Canyon is enough. Our guide was great and knew exactly how to manage the heat and engage the kids. She drove us to various lookouts and trails and places where other vehicles couldn’t go. We took a very nice, manageable hike and enjoyed a visit to the museum on the south rim. All in all, it was just the right amount of time to spend there, and I can check it off my bucket list!

Next, we visited the stunning Amangiri, which was the highlight of our trip. The hotel is amazing! What a beautiful, serene place. And the service was top-notch.

Our excursion to Lake Powell was my children’s favorite experience. Our boat charter was perfect and we had a great driver/guide who took us to different spots on the lake. The kids jumped off cliffs while we kayaked, and we all enjoyed a picnic lunch. It is a wonderful place, and we would definitely go back.

Altogether, we had quality family time and really enjoyed exploring this part of the country. It is so different from where we live. Thank you for everything! We came home with so many wonderful memories.
