Tucked up in Utah’s Little Cottonwood Canyon in the Wasatch Mountain Range, Snowpine Lodge offers the only luxury hotel experience with access to two of the state’s most rugged, powder-prone and beautiful ski mountains, Alta and Snowbird. Set just above the rope-tow that connects Alta’s Albion Lodge and Goldminer’s Lodge, guests of Snowpine need only ski down from the back door of the lodge and hop on the rope tow in either direction to begin their ski day. A short lift just off the rope-tow drops guests back to the resort at the end of the day.

The lodge is made up of six floors, each named alphabetically after a type of tree (Aspen, Birch, Cedar etc.). As it is expected that the majority of guest’s days will be spent on the slopes, in the common areas or in the spa, the rooms and suites are simple, with sleek wooden bed frames, leather chairs and carpeting. Some of the king rooms have the option of adjoining bunk rooms, and the Slopeside Suites have a master bedroom with a queen pull-out sofa in the living area, making these the best options for families. The suites offer the most space, and the best rooms overall are located slope-side with beautiful views out to the front of the mountain. Snowpine Lodge also has ADA rooms and suites to accommodate any guests with mobility impediments.

The emphasis at Snowpine is placed on the common spaces, with a lounge located on every floor, each uniquely laid out with stylish but comfortable couches, chairs and coffee tables, as well as a fireplace and desks on some floors. Each lounge has beautiful views of the mountain from floor-to-ceiling windows and a balcony, plus a massive outdoor deck with abundant seating located on the third floor and an even larger terrace on the bottom floor that is home to the pool, two hot tubs and fire-pits. The bottom floor also houses a good-sized fitness center, the ski lockers (each with boot heaters) where your gear will be brought upon arrival and a ski shop, which stocks favorite brands like Arc’teryx and Patagonia as well as charming ski-themed knick-knacks like hand carved ornaments.

A true highlight for families is The Nest, a rustic, wood framed game room that has an alpine den feel with table games like pingpong and air hockey, a small arcade room, a large shelving unit stacked with board games and a TV with a large leather couch. There is also a Little Nest for younger kids. Meanwhile couples and parents will love to escape to Stillwell Spa, where they will be greeted first by a stone waterfall as they exit the elevator onto the “Birch” floor. Stillwell has six treatment rooms offering massages, skin renewal therapies, an oxygen bar, relaxation room with spaced out plush lounge chairs and a tea and granola station and, the true gem, the Grotto, a mineral plunge pool tucked deep in the spa.

There are two restaurants in Snowpine, both located on the same floor as the lobby (the fifth floor where guests enter upon arrival). The Gulch Pub is the more casual option with internationally-inspired fare, craft drinks and live music perfect for lunch or après ski. For a more refined dining experience, Sven’s Restaurant has a large upscale dining room with views of the mountains to go with delicious meals like mountain trout and veal schnitzel. A breakfast buffet and à la carte breakfast menu is served at Sven’s in the mornings.

While those with the proper tickets can ski between Alta and Snowbird when the connecting trails are open, Snowpine offers a shuttle service to Snowbird for guests looking to switch mountains or to enjoy one of the restaurants at Snowbird’s resorts.
