Review

Beloved for its Scandinavian, family-friendly charm, the Stein Eriksen Lodge has been a fixture on Deer Valley mountain since its opening as a ski resort in the 1980s. Those looking for more private, contemporary accommodations will adore the Stein Residences, opened in 2017, located a mile down the mountain from the Lodge.

With 39 privately owned condominiums and 15 residences, the exclusive property functions as a member’s club and boutique hotel. Entering into the main lodge, the vistas are what capture one’s attention: floor-to-ceiling windows overlook massive panoramas of the Wasatch mountain range. The décor is sleek and stylish, with whimsical bulb lighting, leather furniture and glossy wood coffee tables.

The wow factor continues downstairs where there is a fitness center, small spa and indoor/outdoor pool. There is also a large ski locker room and ski shop, where skiers can get their gear before getting right on the trails outside, and in the summer, this shop becomes a mountain bike outfitter. Guests can dine on property at the 7-8-8-0 restaurant, which offers a buffet breakfast, lunchtime mountain fare and more sophisticated nighttime offerings.

The 39 condominiums range from two- to five-bedroom layouts and are spacious and light-filled with floor-to-ceiling windows that allow for gorgeous mountain views. While the décor is particular to each owner, each condo employs a “mountain-modern” aesthetic with reclaimed wood accents, stone counters, thick velvets and a neutral color palette. Each condo also comes with full gourmet kitchens (many guests hire private chefs), balconies and laundry facilities. For families that want more space, the 15 free-standing residences have five to six bedrooms, large kitchens and living rooms with cathedral ceilings and wood-burning fireplaces. They also house their own ski locker rooms and boast direct access to the ski trails, as well as outdoor hot tubs and fire pits (a small groomer comes right up to the back door so you have fresh corduroy from the start).

Shuttle service is available to transport guests anywhere in the area, such as the Deer Valley ski school or downtown Park City. Guests also have access to all of the amenities at Stein Eriksen Lodge, including their spa (the Residences’ spa only offers facials and massages), restaurants and family entertainment center. Note: Due to COVID concerns, guests of the Residences currently have very limited access to the amenities of Stein Eriksen Lodge.

Who Should Stay

Families and groups that want a very exclusive, boutique property with direct ski in/ski out access, sleek, Instagrammable décor and the same amenities as a larger resort.
