Review

In Canyon’s Village, the boutique Pendry Park City is the best option on the Canyons side of Park City Mountain. The boutique hotel has a more art-focused vibe than its sister property, Montage Deer Valley, and offers ski in/ski out access to Canyon’s sprawling terrain via a lift only steps away from the Aprés Pendry lounge. The goal of this ambitious three-building property was to turn Canyon’s Village into a more vibrant pedestrian village: the Pendry buildings were strategically placed to extend the village’s existing paths into Pendry Plaza, with the first floor of each designated for shops and restaurants, including ski outfitters, a convenience store and the Pendry’s Compass Sports, where boots and ski rentals are kept. Come summer, the plaza plays host to concerts.

The Pendry’s 153 units consist of studio suites and one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom residences, all evoking a modern mountain escape. Expect a black, white and gray color palette (with lots of gray wood paneling) complemented by pops of copper and blue. Ample cabinet space takes the place of deep closets and straight lines abound. This applies even in the children’s bunk rooms, some of which feature chevron wallpaper in which the lines are black skis. The best rooms are those with “Peak” level views, allowing guests to look out on the rolling canyons. Although the rooms are elegant and luxurious, they tend towards the smaller size, with the emphasis placed on the property’s ample common spaces. All residences have a master bedroom, living space, dining area and kitchen. Most have laundry and some have wraparound balconies.

The most remarkable of the hotel’s common spaces is the rooftop lounge in the second building. A large bar and plenty of seating marks the entrance of the open-air lounge, serving drinks and classic American mountain fare. Beyond the bar area, sparkling white lounge chairs surround the heated rooftop pool and hot tub with fire pits in each corner. This sunny spot is an excellent après ski or summer hangout. There are four other restaurants on property located on the ground floors, making them easily accessible from the footpaths or from the second-floor bridges connecting the buildings. Aprés Pendry is the traditional après ski lounge, conveniently located across from the ski lift, with indoor and outdoor seating. Dos Olas (opening Summer 2022) serves Mexican cuisine and has a beautiful octagonal bar and Mexican tile as well as a take-out window. Families will love the comfort food from Disco Pizza, a 50s -style diner with a pizza oven, milkshake bar, arcade games and TVs. For fine dining, guests should head to the indoor-outdoor Kita, a three-course Japanese restaurant serving ramen and rice bowls, as well as excellent steak and sushi. Kita is also open for a breakfast buffet in the morning.

The property also has a spa with six treatment rooms and a large fitness center equipped with Pelotons. Pendry Park City is located ten to fifteen minutes from downtown Park City and around thirty minutes from Salt Lake City Airport. The hotel has a shuttle to downtown Park City the runs regularly throughout the day.

Who Should Stay

Families, couples and groups of friends looking for luxe accommodations on Park City Mountain. Pendry Park City is especially good for those with snowboarders in their group, as Deer Valley is skiers only. Those looking for a less crowded Utah ski option option will also do well here, as the Canyon’s side of Park City is not prone to as many crowds as the Park City side during a typical year.
