Great Ocean Rd & Booringa Rd, Princetown VIC 3269, Australia
The quintessential Australian road trip route, Great Ocean Road was built by veterans after World War I as a scenic link between the coastal towns of Torquay and Warrnambool. The road runs for more than 200 miles and passes through the idyllic surf town of Lorne, the 12 Apostles (a group of stunning rock formations and one of the most photographed locations in the country), the shipwreck-strewn Loch Ard Gorge and the Great Otway National Park, which is known for its wild koalas. Visitors may either rent a car or hire a driver; those looking to experience the route in one day should consider a helicopter for the return transfer and stopping for a few loops around the 12 Apostles along the way.
