Trip of a Lifetime

Indagare member M.C. and her new husband recently honeymooned in Australia and New Zealand. Here are her impressions from the trip.

New Zealand

We had a wonderful experience staying at Kauri Cliffs. The service was impeccable, the food was fantastic and the golf was world-class. Every member of the staff was friendly, helpful and welcoming. We wish we could have stayed longer.

In Queenstown, we stayed at Eichardt's Private Hotel, where we loved the cozy, apartment-style accommodations. It was such a convenient luxury to have a washer/dryer in our suite along with a working kitchenette to chill wine and make coffee. The staff was lovely and very helpful organizing transfers and advising us on where to go and what to do in the area. We did all of our adventurous activities in Queenstown, including a lightning-fast boat ride through the Shotover River Canyons, Nevis bungy jump and NZone sky diving. All three were thrilling, and we would recommend them to adventure seekers!

Our helicopter tour over Milford Sound was amazing! We landed on a glacier and visited a beautiful lake way up in the mountains. Our tour guide was great and left us with a lasting impression of the incredible beauty that is New Zealand. While Queenstown is definitely worth visiting, it is very touristy and without a car there is not much to do. Town, with its waterfront bars, restaurants and shops, can be covered in one day. Blanket Bay was beautiful, and we both could have spent more time there, as we ran out of time to go fly fishing. We snuck in a two-hour horseback ride the morning we departed, which was really fun. Again, our guide was fantastic.

Australia

We absolutely loved Sydney. It is an incredible city and easily explored on foot. New Year’s Eve was a delight; our prix-fixe dinner on the waterfront was great for the fireworks show.

While in Sydney we went to Bondi Beach and Manly Beach, and while both were beautiful and the towns really fun, we preferred Manly. It’s less of a tourist destination and more a local spot, so it was much-less crowded. We took the ferry over, which was nice and easy.

I cannot emphasize how magical Qualia was. We had incredible service all around and the resort itself is so beautiful (in fact, the whole of Hamilton Island is stunning). I loved that the resort was adults-only and low-key. Everyone was very nice and the weather was perfect the whole time. We took a helicopter to Whitehaven Beach for lunch one day, which was my favorite part of the entire trip.

We took a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef for diving and snorkeling. It makes for a long day, but it was a really special experience to have seen it.

Thank you again for all of your help—it was the trip of a lifetime!
