Mixology Classes with Matthew Hunter, Head Bartender of Eleven Madison Park in New York City

On Location in New York City

Mise en place is a term used in professional kitchens that translates to “Everything in its place.” Before you can start to prepare a meal or a cocktail, you need to have your ingredients organized and your mind focused. This philosophy can easily be applied to how you make drinks at home. In this class, Matthew Hunter, the Head Bartender of Eleven Madison Park (2017 World’s Best Restaurant), will teach you how to make four delicious, simple, balanced cocktails with spirits that will become staples on your back bar. He offers classes on the Spritz, cocktails to pair with the American BBQ, London Dry Gin (the art of the Martini), and he has also done a summer-centric tequila class. We can send all menus through to you for your perusal should you wish. If you’d like to have a class fully customized (perhaps it involves non-alcoholic drinks, or you want the focus on Whiskey or Vodka), we can do that as well, though it might affect the price per person.

Wine Tasting with Schramsberg and Davies Vineyards

On Location in Napa Valley, California

Schramsberg, the second-oldest bonded winery in Napa Valley, was founded in 1862 by German immigrants and is home to the first hillside vineyards within Napa County. After being shuttered as a commercial winery for over 50 years, the property was revived in 1965 by the Davies family, who started producing sparkling wines following la méthode traditionnelle utilized by the great houses in Champagne, France. Today, second generation vintner Hugh Davies oversees the daily operations of both Schramsberg Vineyards and Davies Vineyards (which was started in 2001, with the crafting of the J. Davies Estate Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon). In this private tasting session, you will join Hugh as he personally leads you on an exploratory voyage focused on the world-class sparkling and still wines of these two vineyards. Your private tasting will feature three-to-four bottlings and highlight the history of these iconic properties, as you explore the range and depth of the distinct pockets along California’s North Coast Appellation, which are dedicated to Pinot Noirs and Cabernet Sauvignons.

Join Ireland-born Rachel Gaffney, television personality and founder of a successful Irish travel, lifestyle and home brand—and the host of our fall Insider Journey to Cork, Limerick and Dublin—to learn a bit about the history of baking in Ireland. • Lemon Drizzle Cake is a delicious and quintessential Irish treat—and the perfect recipe as we head into the warmer months.

They are so good that Martha Stewart once invited her on her show to share her recipe and method—and now you can find out, too.

Futurism in Fashion

On Location in New York

From Utopia to Metropolis, futurist visions transformed dress in the early 20th century, from the oppressive ideal of the corseted angel of the household to the freewheeling flapper, who wore the first modern clothing. Led by fashion historian, author and Parsons School of Design professor Jessica Glasscock, this class explores the origin story of the clothes we wear today, from the radical proposals of the early twentieth century avant-garde. While considerable credit should go to Coco Chanel, Madeleine Vionnet and the other 1920s Parisian designers who made fashion modern, artists and bohemians from beyond the City of Light also played a powerful role in shaping contemporary dress. From William Morris to Joseph Hoffman and Giacomo Balla, artists theorized modern fashion before Paris embraced it. This class traces that hidden history.

How did the architects plan for such a large project? What did the Basilica take the place of? Through a narrative exploration of St. Peter’s Basilica, this presentation will inform participants of the complexities of the construction of the Basilica and its place in the urban fabric of Rome.
