New Year’s Travel Resolutions: Where We’re Going (and How We’re Getting There) in 2022

The Indagare community is looking forward to a 2022 filled with travel. Even as we enter a new year (with Omicron), we have new travel resolutions, too. In the months ahead, staff members remain eager to return to old favorites and venture somewhere new. We’re seeking travel that supports local economies and helps combat climate change. Read on for our team’s New Year’s travel resolutions for the coming year and we hope they inspire yours.

Staying Flexible in Discovery Mode “Every year I am excited to mix new discoveries with deeper immersive returns to places I love, and this year I am starting with exploring more of Saudi Arabia and Mexico (finally Mexico City and San Miguel Allende), but also returning to Paris for our fashion Insider Journeys with Vogue, which was our last IJ trip before lockdown and one of my all-time favorites. It is also looking like a year of deferred dreams finally coming true as I will get to travel with our members on Insider Journeys finally to Slovenia, Mongolia and Antarctica on journeys that were delayed last year because of border closures. I resolve to set out always with a traveler’s mindset, appreciative to be in discovery mode, and aware that there is only so much we can plan and control. I have learned that the greatest moments arrive when we remain flexible, open-minded and sensitive to the world and people around us and the impact we have.” ~ Indagare Founder and CEO Melissa Biggs Bradley

Making the Family Rounds and Working Remotely “My friends and family spread out a lot over the past two years, around the U.S. and in Europe. My 2022 resolution is to make the rounds, visiting people in Nashville, Washington D.C., Park City and Copenhagen, (I haven’t been out of the U.S. since the first wave of Covid). I’m also hoping to convince a friend to turn nomad with me and work from somewhere exciting, maybe Europe or Central America!” ~ Abby Sandman, Indagare Digital Content Coordinator

Tasting What’s New in the American South, Returning to St. Barth’s and Europe

“After visiting New Orleans (which actually has a higher vaccination rate than you'd expect) just before Christmas, I am considering another trip south to Charleston later this winter. I’d love to check out some of the newest restaurants on the scene, including Brasserie la Banque, Lenoir, 167 Raw Sushi, the cozy wine bar The Tippling House, among others. I’m also hoping to return to St. Barth’s to check out new hotels Rosewood Le Guanahani and Tropical, and revisit some favorites like Le Sereno and Cheval Blanc. Getting back to Italy or Lisbon and Comporta in the late spring or early summer is also on my list.” ~ Jen Barr, Indagare's Director of Content Strategy

Maximizing Impact, Learning More and Writing it Down “I have three 2022 travel resolutions:

  1. Travel has brought me face-to-face with the realities of climate change across the world. I want to spend 2022 as nature’s student and am planning my travels in pursuit of experiences that thoughtfully incorporate time with indigenous groups who are willing to share their wisdom. My first trip will be to Swedish Lapland with our Senior Director of Marketing, Diana Li, where we are planning to spend time with the Sámi community.
  2. I am committed to journaling more diligently when I travel this year. The pandemic amplified the importance of travel memories, and I want to be sure I am recording mine.
  3. There are so many destinations around the world that economically rely on travel. I plan on traveling to places where my travel dollar has the greatest impact and tipping generously wherever possible.”~ Elise Bronzo, Indagare Senior Director of Membership
Making the Most of Where We Are “I plan to watch the sunset every day in January 2022. I live two blocks from the beach, but after a year living in Key West, I realized I stopped taking advantage of that, as most locals eventually do. I’ll be kicking off the year with 31 days of sundowners (drinks not included).” ~ Eric Hernandez, Indagare Travel Operations Assistant

Supporting Local Economies “Since so much of each African country’s economy relies on tourism, my New Year’s travel resolution is to return to Africa to help support the countries that have been hit hard by the resurgent waves of Covid.” ~  Bridget McElroy, Indagare Global Experience Production Associate

Expanding Travel Horizons “As always, my yearly travel resolution is to travel to three new countries.” ~ Eliza Harris, Indagare COO

Seeing New Countries and Longtime Favorites for Longer “Next year, I hope to travel to seven new places to reach my goal of traveling to 70 countries! I would also love to revisit old favorite destinations (Thailand, Mexico and Europe) and stay for longer to appreciate them like a local.” ~ Sarah Levine, Indagare Associate Membership Manager

Fulfilling a Longtime Adventure Goal

“I say it every year, but I’d actually like to execute the thought in 2022: I want to go sky diving—ideally, over the Alps, but I won’t be picky!” ~ Megan Coy, Indagare Travel Operations Assistant

Returning to Favorite Places, Finishing the Civil Rights Trail and Going Slow “Before Covid, I was always looking for the new. Twenty months of travel restrictions later, I’m longing to revisit old favorites that have tugged at my heart and which I’ve revisited in films and books, from afar. I especially hope to get back to London, Paris, Berlin and Venice. However, should international borders remain closed or difficult to cross, I’ll complete my U.S. travel “bucket list” and head to Selma and Birmingham, Alabama to finish the Civil Rights Trail. I’m also doubling down on ‘slow’ travel in 2022: staying in destinations for longer periods of time than I used to, immersing myself like a local and giving back to local markets and restaurants. Given the realities of climate change, I’m also resolving to take more trains than planes and contribute to carbon offset programs.” ~ Indagare contributor Arabella Bowen

Learning from a Destination

“I love learning something new in an experimental way that’s from the country I’m visiting. I loved the cooking classes and drum-making classes available in Morocco, for example, and am looking to incorporate more experiences like these in my travels this year.” ~ Steffi Fitzpatrick, Indagare Trip Designer

Finding Home(s) Away from Home “Maya Angelou once said ‘I long, as does every human being, to be at home wherever I find myself.’ That is my goal for 2022. Given the good fortune of being able to work from anywhere, I’d love to do so in both the U.S. and foreign destinations so I can deeply connect with the people and culture.” ~ Krista Lulla, Indagare Trip Designer

Going Together “The last two years have really put a premium on quality time with loved ones. My goal for 2022 is to include my family and friends wherever I can in my future travels. My siblings and I are planning a trip as a joint birthday gift for our parents. We originally wanted something far-flung like Japan, but we quickly realized the destination is less important than the company. My parents expressed they’d be just as happy with a weekend in the Great Smoky Mountains. I hope that experiencing these travels with family and friends will have a transcendent effect and that the memories will pass down through the generations.” ~ Emily Kamin, Indagare Human Resources Generalist

Saying Yes More “My resolution is to say ‘Yes’ to trips as much as possible, especially those that involve seeing friends or family in special places. I’ll be heading to Mexico twice—once with a group of friends and again for a wedding that had been postponed. I am also planning on visiting Europe to see extended family.” ~ Peter Schlesinger, Indagare Digital Content Manager
