Where to Go in November 2019: Top 8 November Vacation Ideas

Benefiting from cooler temperatures and the calm before the excitement of the holidays, November is an excellent—and often overlooked—time to travel. And yet, for many of Indagare’s favorite destinations, the late fall season offers ideal weather and fewer crowds, so you can easily secure the coveted reservations and tickets that will be much harder to come by during the holiday season and winter months. From recently debuted hotels in Europe’s capitals, to hot new restaurants in Manhattan, now is also the time to focus on the new spots that you’ll want to check out for yourself.

Charleston, South Carolina

Why We Love It:

“Full of delicious restaurants, charming boutiques and gorgeous architecture that has been painstakingly preserved, Charleston is a place that every single visitor falls in love with." — Indagare's Missy Weil Why Go Now:

Foodies will love this city, with its abundance of top restaurants, whether you're after fresh local seafood or craft cocktails: in November, the city hosts its annual Southern Oyster Roast with live music, barbecue and—of course—oysters, followed by a silent auction. Proceeds help support the interactive museum that honors a piece of American Civil War history. Seafood lovers will also discover plenty of options, including a few of our favorites such as the always-popular Husk, rustic-chic French Bistro Chez Nous, the raw bar at The Ordinary and the seafood counter at 167 Raw. Also on our radar: The Darling Oyster Bar, Charleston Grill, Wild Common and Malagón, Mercado y Tapería.

Zurich, Switzerland

Why We Love It:

"Zurich has an extraordinary hotel in the Dolder Grand. The terrace of my room overlooked the lake, and the first sips of morning air in the Swiss Alps were even better than the world's best double espresso, which I enjoyed alongside this panorama." — Indagare's Elise BronzoWhy Go Now:

In November, visitors can find lower rates at the best hotels in Zurich—like the Widder and the Dolder Grand—and experience early access to some of Europe’s most famous Christmas markets. Just before Thanksgiving, this gilded city of regal church spires and cobblestoned streets puts on its fairytale Christmas markets, which include local goods and flavors in the spirit of Christmas cheer.

San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

Why We Love It:

“The charming colonial mountain town has perpetual spring weather, making it perfect for a late fall trip. Spend the mornings shopping at the local markets and boutiques (a favorite is Kingsley Market) and finish the day with dinner at one of San Miguel's many excellent restaurants.” — Indagare's Samantha RifkinWhy Go Now:

This UNESCO-recognized colonial city in the mountains northwest of Mexico City is ideal for a quick getaway—and the perfect hideaway for anyone looking for a food, wine and arts-centric getaway. November has multiple local festivities surrounding holidays such as the Day of the Dead at the beginning of the month, Revolution Day or the feast of Santa Cecilia (the patron saint of musicians), capped off by an artisans’ market and the San Miguel International Jazz and Blues Festival, with jam sessions across the city, towards the end of the month, offering plenty of ways to experience the local culture.

Rome, Italy

Why We Love It:

“Rome is the perfect blend of history and tradition with urban edge and contemporary life.” — Indagare's Jen BarrWhy Go Now:

There is no shortage of events to entertain visitors in bustling, chaotic Rome this month. Insiders are looking forward to the Jazz Festival, hosted in the world-class performance venue Parco della Musica. This edition will feature Dianne Reeves, Ralph Towner and Antonio Sanchez & Migration. The Hotel de la Ville, which sits at the top of the Spanish Steps, is one of the city’s buzziest new properties.

New York, New York

Why We Love It:

“The constant innovation layered over many years of tradition is what I love most about New York City. I have memories of every stage of my life here, and I am always pleasantly surprised by the new restaurants, shops, exhibits and rituals that emerge.”— Melissa Biggs BradleyWhy Go Now: The city that never sleeps

also never rests on its laurels, particularly when it comes to pushing culinary boundaries. From innovative natural wine bars to border-crossing creations, well-heeled New Yorkers are flocking to a healthy handful of new hot spots like Niche Niche, which bills itself as an intimate dinner party, Llama San, serving Japanese-Peruvian cuisine, and the reincarnated Meatpacking District mainstay, Pastis.

Cartagena, Colombia

Why We Love It:

“I love the air of magic in Cartagena, evidenced by the centuries-old churches, horse-drawn carriages and brightly colored houses decorated with flowers. You can take in this scenery while enjoying a pre-dinner drink from the balcony of a private mansion, arranged by Indagare.” — Indagare's Sarah LevineWhy Go Now:

Preserved by ancient fortifications built by the Spanish, Cartagena is a stunning time capsule on the shores of the Caribbean. World class music, talented chefs, chic hotels and shops plus film festivals lure those in search of seaside culture. From November 1-23, the city hosts the Cartagena Jazz Festival, which is headlining an impressive list of fun artists. There will also be plenty of events and festivities on November 11, in commemoration of Cartagena becoming the first Colombian city to declare independence from the Spanish.

Paris, France

Why We Love It: “For all of its grandeur—sweeping grand boulevards, iconic monuments and gold-tinged bridges criss-crossing the Seine—there is something instantly intimate and familiar about Paris. It’s the Parisians’ joie de vivre and slower pace of life that, for me, has spoiled every other city." — Indagare's Marley BlandoriWhy Go Now: Paris

’s Rive Gauche is host to some of the city’s most exciting new offerings, thanks to the reopening of the Hôtel Lutetia last summer followed by the debut this year of J.K. Place, Paris. The latter, the chic brand’s first outpost outside Italy opening next month, is located in a former European consulate in charming Saint-Germain-des-Prés, two blocks from the Seine and a five-minute walk from the Tuileries Gardens, the Musée d’Orsay and the iconic Café de Flore.

Tulum, Mexico

Why We Love It:

“I can’t think of any other place in the world that casts its spell so quickly. As soon as you come up for air after your first dive in the warm turquoise sea there, you’ve already forgotten what day and time it is.”— Indagare's Simone GirnerWhy Go Now: Casa Pueblo

, Tulum’s chicest new boutique hotel, offers adventurous travelers the opportunity to explore a different side of Tulum and interact with locals, outside of the confines of a resort. Its location in town, rather than on the beach, emphasizes the culture of Tulum and its surroundings, rather than just its oceanfront natural beauty.
