Episode 19 Know Before You Go: Cambodia’s Angkor

Located in Cambodia’s northern Siem Reap province, Angkor Wat is the largest religious monument in the world and a powerful symbol of rebirth following the country’s tragic civil war and genocide in the 1970s. Since 1989, the World Monument Fund (WMF), an international nonprofit committed to preserving our built heritage, has been working with local communities to restore Angkor Archeological Park.

This week, Melissa speaks with WMF project manager Ginevra Boatto about the ambitious project. Learn how WMF is training Cambodia’s next generation of cultural heritage stewards and how we can be mindful visitors to fragile sites. Ginevra also shares insider tips for a trip to Cambodia, from how to navigate Angkor Archeological Park to off-the-beaten path excursions.

Plus, this week on Destination Hacks, Melissa and Indagare Productions Director Kathryn Nathanson reminisce on their recent trips to Siem Reap, sharing their favorite properties and itinerary recommendations.

Visit www.wmf.org to learn more about the World Monument Fund and how you can support its efforts to preserve historic architecture and cultural heritage sites worldwide.
