Al-Salt

Al-Salt, Jordan

A 30-minute drive from Amman in west Jordan, Al-Salt is an ancient salt-trading city on the old main road connecting Amman and Jerusalem. The city, which was built into three hills, is extremely picturesque and was once the most important settlement in the region between the Jordan Valley and the Eastern Desert. There is a small museum, Al-Salt’s Archaeological & Folklore Museum, in the center of town displaying artifacts dating back to 5,000 B.C., plus other items relating to the history of the city. In 2021, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
